Welcome to the Glass House Concerto Project, my new series of blog posts that chronicle the composition of a brand new work from start to finish. What will result, I hope, is a unique insight into a process that really isn’t terribly mysterious. Quite the opposite. For me, composition is a day-to-day chipping away and reworking that is more about carefully considered decision-making than divine inspiration.
The piece I’ll be working on is a commission from percussionist Matthew Coley and is tentatively titled Glass House Concerto. The piece will be premiered in April, 2012 by the Iowa State University Wind Ensemble.
