Music for “The Laramie Project”

This past summer, I was asked to write incidental music for Paradise Valley Community College’s production of The Laramie Project, Moises Kaufman’s play about the murder of Matthew Shepard and the repercussions the event had on the town of Laramie, Wyoming.

As often happens in the world of theatre, I didn’t actually get my “marching orders” from the production team until just a few days before the tech rehearsals were to begin.  I spent three days holed up at home, composing the five or so longer themes that were needed, and using that material to produce about 30 short playoffs, underscores, and so forth.

The music was performed by Matt Gould and Beth Ilana Schneider (AKA Duo46) and recorded and edited by Dr. Brett Reed and his students at PVCC.  Below are the longest cues, from which all the shorter musical excerpts in the piece are derived.
